Boys Before Flowers Episode 20

A semi-satisfying episode; they’ve returned to the main OTP pairing of Junpyo and Jandi, which is in some ways a relief even though I prefer Ji-Hoo/Jandi, but Junpyo/Jandi are the main couple and I always knew they’d end up together so it was just a matter of time until they started having scenes together.

Overall, however, I’m still dissatisfied: Goo Hye Sun and Lee Min Ho have oodles and oodles of chemistry together, more than almost any other couple I’ve ever seen(they seem to have more as the drama goes on, actually). But it’s not the actors I object to – it’s their characters. Jandi is an emo, passive mess without Junpyo, unlike Makino who was awesome with or without Domyoji, and Junpyo, as always, lacks mental and moral self-control and is uber-passive about LIFE – not just his romantic life. The two are adorable together, but I’m just so over their whole story. It’s been ruined for me gradually but surely over the course of this drama. But maybe they’ll fix is so amazingly well that I actually fall for them again over the course of this drama. In turns of unilateral love though, this drama will never become one of my favorites now – it’s just too messy, too incoherent, too stupid. They should never have made me stop loving Junpyo’s character because now it’s really hard to respect him again – indeed, almost impossible. The main highlight indeed was the Ga-Eul/Yi-Jung interaction, in which Ga-eul showed approximately ten times the spunk and awesomeness that Jandi has been showing for the past ten or so episodes combined.

Episode 21 will apparently bring us, not just the approach to the Junpyo/Jaekyung wedding, but also a reference to a Ji-Hoo/Jandi wedding – Ji-Hoo’s grandfather apparently convinces the two to pose for a wedding photo competition, and Jandi agrees because one of the prizes is a “cow present set” (no idea what this means) she wants for her younger brother. The two unexpectedly win first prize, a trip to Jeju island, and Junpyo sees their photo on the magazine cover and gets upset(boo-hoo).
