Kim Bum and Kim So-Eun Dating?

Hot off the Popseoul presses – evidence strongly suggests that Kim Bum and Kim So-Eun are a campus couple! Heeee!!!! You know, I adored them both in Boys Before Flowers, but I wasn’t a rabid fan until after the drama, when looking back they were one of the highlights of that addicting mess. It would be too adorable for words if this is true:) Also, they’d hands-down win the award for most photogenic young couple ever(apart from Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu, of course…).

Star Bites: Goo Hye Sun, Rain, Epik High, Big Bang, Kim Hyun Joong..

Roenal kindly commented and sent me a link to another lovely BOF music video, but embedding is disabled, so I’m just linking to it here (the song is almost eerily appropriate).

Billasub, a new music video/drama subbing group, is looking for translators; she’s collaborating with Jcjjica to sub To Get Her, which I’m quite excited about, and I’ve volunteered to be blog manager for Jcjjica so we’ll see if that works out.

I haven’t had a chance to watch Boys Before Flowers 16 yet , but you can download Episode 16 at Arashi.Vox(Youtube & Veoh links also) or at Aja-aja as usual.

Entertainment Bites:

Goo Hye Sun of Boys Over Flowers and SeungRi of Big Bang to perform Duet together – how…random. I suppose I’m excited to see the actress from a drama I’m very much enjoying and a member of my favorite Korean band performing together however

Epik High‘s new album comes out in March, and Se7en makes his American debut(*hollow laugh* I’m not even excited anymore. There’s only so many times a debut can be announced and then retracted before it just becomes stale) with a teaser clip on March 4th and the full “Girls” MV March 10.

Rain releases “Recollection”, a repackage of his 5th album “Rainism”, on March 5

Those under 19th won’t be allowed to purchase Big Bang‘s 2nd album Remember, due to the suggestive lyrics of Seung Ri’s solo “Strong Baby” – also known as, why I’m glad I don’t live in Korea

And, in Kim Hyun Joong news(mm!) from least to most important:

– his new hairstyle on BOF hot topic

-he went to a DBSK concert to support his friend Jaejoong

-he is to further his studies in America!!! While I’m slightly disappointed to see he’s only coming for 6 months, I’m still excited for him to learn English so he can meet me and fall madly in love and it’s most likely that he’d come to Los Angeles, which is where I live.

-he won the popularity award!! Lee Min-Ho got the newcomer award at the 45th Baek Sang Arts Awards yesterday, but Kim Hyun Joong displaced him for popularity award for male artistes in the TV category

K-Bites has red-carpet photos of him and the other F4 members(it’s almost eerie seeing them in real life, because they project the same image of charisma, togetherness, and sheer good looks in real life as they do in the drama) at the Arts Awards.

Hanfever has the complete list of winners as well as more photos(other highlights included So Ji-Sub winning Best Newcomer Award along with Kang Ji Hwan).

Newsbites

Supposed ending of Boys Before Flowers causes huge commotion

Highly anticipated drama Cain and Abel finally had its opening press conference and will begin on February 18th(woo-hoo!). Poor Han Ji-Min took the prize for most-uncomfortable-in-her-dress actress I’ve ever seen; it’s so obvious in all the pictures that she’s dreadfully afraid of exposure/one of those dreadful clothing mishaps the paparazzi never lets an actor live down.

Se7en, somewhat anti-climatically after all these months of promises and rumours, is finally, actually, officially, making his US debut on March 4 with his single Girls and an MV for it.

Last but not least, uber-popular Kdrama Boys Before Flowers might be extended (hmm. I have mixed feelings about this. I’m afraid they’re going to ruin it by cramming in more content just to make more money)

Newsbites: BoA, SeungRi and Kim Bum

A preview of BoA’s first song on her American debut album set to come out March 17th came out – “I Did It for Love”, featuring and written and produced by Sean Garrett who wrote and produced songs like User’s “Yeah!” and Chris Brown’s “Run it”. It’s not great – it’s very stereotypical American pop in my opinion – but it’s not terrible either.

Meanwhile SeungRi of Big Bang and Kim Bum of Boys Over Flowers(mm, the deliciousness!) are set to be in a movie together

Oh yes, and girl group After School premiered their debut video Ah MV, featuring Marco. They come from Son Dambi’s entertainment group, Pledis Entertainment, and are (apparently?) modelled after the Pussycat Dolls(!) and want to show everyone a different kind of girl group…by which I assume they mean they’re going to try to follow Dambi’s more hard-edged/overtly sexy musical style, as opposed to the pop-ish/cute/girly style of many other girl groups like the Wonder Girls.

Surprisingly, I don’t hate it. The lead girl in particular seems to have some strong vocals going for her. But I”m withholding judgement until I see more from them.

Se7en and BoA: a Real American Debut!

Looks like Se7en, after two years of rumours and delays(in which we saw him most of the time sitting around LA looking bored), and BoA, after one year of the same, are both finally going to release an actual US album.

Se7en will release his on Valentine’s Day according to his record company YG Entertainment – “We will first release Se7en’s single album as a digital single. We are working at releasing it on 14th February which is also Valentines’ Day.” His debut song is called “Girlz” (highly original Se7en. highly original)

More info here

BoA’s first American album, meanwhile, comes out March 17 headed by the single “I Did It for Love”. Her previously released(and I gotta admit, highly catchy) single “Eat You Up” has been climbing U.S. Billboards slowly but surely, now in the top 10 ranks at #8 position on the ‘Hot Dance Club Play’ chart for February 7th.

Upcoming dramas in 2009(mostly Taiwanese)

Cain and Abel – premiers February 18, stars So Ji-Sub, Han Ji-Min, and Chae Jung-ahn – I am really excited about this. I love So Ji-Sub from what I’ve seen so far, and I always like a show about doctors(and brothers) 🙂

Swallow the Sun – stars Lee Wan, story about two men who grow up as best friends and then become bitter rivals

Infernal Lover, starring Mike He, also known as Hua Wu Fei Xue – not sure when this will premier, they’re shooting it right now

Superstar Express, also known as To Get Her, starring Rainie Yang, premiers February 15

Black and White, starring Vic Zhou and Mark Chao, premiers April 11(Vic, unless you deliver a good performance in this drama, I’m giving up on you. I’m not kidding)

Full House 2 is happenning but there’s precious few details on it yet aside from the fact that it will premier in August

Starlit, starring Jerry Yan and Terri Kwan(read: girl who always plays Vic Zhou’s secondary girl), began airing yesterday, but I’m going to stay as far away from it as possible. I honestly crack up every time I read the casting list again. They managed to pair together two of the absolute worst actors in the whole industry – as the main leads of a drama. I like the dramas both Jerry and Terri are in. But they can’t act to save their lives, particularly Terri.

Extravagant Challenge– starring Jerry Yan and Ariel Lin(again, two actors I don’t particularly like), the drama has been postponed indefinitely

Triple, however, is possibly the drama I’m most excited about. Stars Min Hyo-Rin and…Kang Ji Hwan, I think, though to be honest I checked three different sources and they all listed a different actor! so who knows. It’s about figure skaters, however, which imo is something you can’t go wrong with(almost). Premiers May 2009.

Big Bang+MBC Music Festival

Also, in music highlights,, Big Bang came out with their vid for Seung Ri’s “Strong Baby” –

I must admit I shed a (metaphorical) tear or two while watching this video. Big Bang, Big Bang. Sell your music, not sex! You’re plenty talented and popular enough not to have to rely on this/go down this route. Was also slightly shocked as Korea tends toward the conservative side of things (though of course much less so in its music industry, in which they try and imitate the US as much as possible) and – wow. Even in American music videos I very rarely see an actual bed scene. *mourns* That was just – unnecessary.

On a side note however – G-Dragon continues to astonish me with his hotness, and I liked the pairing of him with Seung-Ri, and the “brahthaa!” thing was adorable. 🙂

And, at the December 31st MBC Music Festival(aslo known as MBC Gayo Daejun) WonderBang was as rockingly amazing as expected and lit up my world; I don’t know much about the Wonder Girls beyond the fact that they’re probably the most popular Korean girl-band right now, but I loved their juxtaposition with Big Bang as, at least for me, the girls cuteness/girlpower/fluffiness only showed off how sexy/talented/hard-edged BB is. Plus, I’ve got to admit – the Girls can actually sing – always a relief.
