Upcoming Taiwanese drama: Quietly Falling in Love with You/Knock Knock Loving You

I have to say, I wasn’t that interested in the upcoming Ming Dao/Dylan Kuo drama Quietly Falling in Love with You when I originally did a post on it after a reader requested it, but it’s looking better and better, particularly now that it’s clear that Dylan is the main lead(I’m not a big fan of Ming Dao). Populasian just informed me that the the title has been changed from QFiLwY to Knock Knock Loving You, and sure enough Dramawiki has a recently updated page under that title. It will premier April 12 and Populasian also directed me to the rather lovely CTS site for it.

Cheng Xue Ge(Dylan Kuo) had lived in the life of comfort and never knew the dark side of human nature until his father’s company bankrupted. In order to restore the company, he must learn from his archrival, Yao Zi Wang(Wu Ya Xin), the ins and outs of being a shrewd, successful businessman. While working closely together, he slowly realizes her coldblooded ruthlessness was only a front to protect her battered heart. But before he could sort out his feelings about her, another man, Zhao Guan Xi(Ming Dao), already has his eyes on her business talent and her hand in marriage.

Upcoming Taiwanese drama: Quietly Falling in Love with You

One of my readers, Lina, has requested several times that I do a post about Taiwanese actor Ming Dao’s upcoming dramas, so here is the first part of it. Ming Dao’s career first took off in 2005 with the incredibly poular drama The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog with Chen Qiao En. He has three dramas set to come out in 2009/2010. He finished filming Quietly Falling in Love with You, which he stars in with Dylan Kuo of The Outsiders, and is also working on  both Always Smile! and Staying By Sunshine, Staying By You, in the latter of which he will be re-teaming with Chen Qiao En.

First up, Quietly falling in Love with You (note-don’t be confused, there’s apparently a Korean drama with the same name, in fact I heard this one is a remake of the Korean drama, but whatever the case, they’re two separate dramas):

-Also known as  Qiao Qiao Ai Shang Ni

-Currently filming

-Broadcast date: March or April 2009

-Categorized as an “idol drama” because of the presence of Ming Dao and Dylan Kuo

Characters :
Ming Dao – Zhao Guan Xi
Dylan Kuo/Guo Pin Chao – Chen Xue Ge
Wu Ya Xin – Yao Zi Wang
Jiang Yi – Zhao Guan Li
Li Xiao Lu – Tang Qing Wu

Zhao Guan Xi(Ming Dao) is a “playboy” and an attractive but ruthless person. Growing up in a very wealthy family, he’s accustomed to getting whatever he wants. When he falls in love with Yao Zi Wang(Wu Ya Xin), he tries to threaten her family into forcing her to marry him. But Yao Zi Wang is already in love with Chen Xue Ge(Dylan Kuo), a violinist. She closed her heart, rejecting Zhao Guan Xi who forced her into marriage.

Characters’ description(credit: Crunchyroll)

Ming Dao – An entrepreneur, a rich young leader of Taiwan, a cold-hearted playboy. He has a lot of power and influence in the business world. When he fell in love with the main female lead, he used forceful and tough means to make her be engaged and married to him. This develops into a very interesting love.

Guo Pin Chao – A violin player who is forced to return to Taiwan when his family runs into financial difficulties in order to take over the family business.

Wu Ya Xin – Originally a strong woman, sees that Guo Pin Chao’s company can help her cut her ties with her family’s control. In the business world, she had connections to Guo Pin Chao, with her feelings, she was swaying between Guo Pin Chao and Ming Dao.

Jiang Yi – a strong woman, when she wants something, it always gets to her. In the drama, she likes Guo Pin Chao, doing everything for him. She even put down her social status to help him in his small business, always at his side. At the end, when she sees Wu Ya Xin and Guo Pin Chao going to get married, she is deeply hurt.

Li Xiao Lu – Guo Pin Chao’s ex-gf. A cello player. The person that Guo Pin Chao always loved.

Black and White

Vic Zhou finally, finally, finally has a new drama coming out; it’s been on my radius for a while ever since I first heard of it and went into mad ecstasy because a)my favorite Taiwanese actor is making a drama comeback b)he’s finally taking on another serious role after the brilliant and amazing Mars and c)the plot sounds to die for.  It’s finally premiering April 11 so I thought I’d make a post on it.  It’s called Black and White and is about hot cops is about two cops who are forced to team up together to take down the dark forces riddling their city.

  • Title: 痞子英雄 / Pi Zi Ying Xiong
  • English title: Black & White
  • Genre: Police, action
  • Broadcast network: PTS
  • Broadcast period: 2009-Apr-11 to 2009
  • Air time: Saturday 23:00 – 24:00

Pi Zi and Ying Xiong are two cops who are as different as day and night. One does nothing except for drinking coffee and living a luxurious lifestyle while waiting for information from dubious sources to crack his cases. Another believes law and justice are the pillars of society and is constantly on the street catching criminals… a little overzealously for his superior’s liking. When a case brought these two top crime solvers together, sparks fly and a little light peeks into this dark city where the nation’s President is on friendly terms with the local mafia and people are killed while drinking milkshakes.

Miscellania: Boys Before Flowers, Coolsmurf, new drama-download site

Boys Before Flowers episodes 11 and 12 came out!! Downloading now(from here, if anyone’s interested). I already spoiled myself by reading the Dramabeans summary, but having seen this story adapted twice already(Meteor Garden and Hana Yori Dango) there’s only so much I can be spoiled about anyway. What I’m really looking/waiting for, I must admit, is the Ga-Eul/Yi Jung storyline.

In other news, I note that Coolsmurf, one of only 5 Asian entertainment bloggers I read regularly, is abandoning his independent blog and moving over to entertainment site Alkpop…which I would be happier for him about IF my opinion of Alkpop did not have an inverse relationship to their vulgarity/nastiness level(high). See Dramaworld About for why I listed them as a link once and now do not. If anyone has any recommendations for bloggers to replace Coolsmurf, let me know, although I must admit I’ve kept on eye on Alkpop over the past few days since the announcement came and for now at least most of the articles are being written by Coolsmurf…which means a sharp upward climb in quality. I can’t even recognize Alkpop for its gut-level sarcasm any more! Which means I may be re-adding Alkpop if this continues. For now, see his article on Kim So Eun preferring Jun-pyo over Yi Jung.

As a blogger goes, however, a new drama-downloading site enters on Dramaworld; I discovered Jiwang the other day, a Malaysian entertainment site which has many dramas to download and is very easy to use; all you have to do is register to gain access and the files are offered as direct downloads in often several different formats from different servers. I’ll be adding it to the Drama Guide.

Summer of Bubbles update

I am sad to announce(somewhat belatedly), that my hopes for a Vic Zhou/Barbie Hsu reunion in her upcoming drama Summer of Bubbles have proven to be groundless, although they will both have a drama airing in 09 – it just won’t be the same one 😦  Vic, as we know, will be appearing in Black and White, which will begin airing April 11 on PTS, while Barbie has indeed taken the lead role in Summer of Bubbles(also known as Summer’s Bubble, Summer of Bubbles, and Pao Mo Zhi Xia – most confusing drama ever, but ). The original casting of the male leads was  Peter Ho(who starred with Barbie in her early drama Phantom Lover) , who is also the producing the drama, as Luoxi and Dylan Guo(of The Outsiders) as Ou Chen, but investors apparently complained to Peter Ho about the casting of Dylan so he was replaced with Huang Xiaoming.

Original casting:

(Dylan Guo is on the left). Huang Xiaoming apparently liked the script so much that he agreed to be paid a fraction of his worth just to be in the drama.

So, in summary-

Yin Xia Mo (尹夏沫) – Barbie Hsu

Luo Xi (洛熙) – Peter Ho-

Ou Chen (欧辰)- Huang Xiaoming-

Barbie’s character, I am told, gets together with Ou Chen(Huang) in the end 😦 I’d prefer Peter.

There’s supposed to be a “huge press conference to be held for ‘Summer Bubbles’ on March 15th, with ‘big brand’ actors Da S, Huang Xiaoming and Peter Ho being the female and male main leads of the show. It will also star Zhang Guozhu (张国柱), Fang Si Yu (房思瑜), Kris Shen (沈建宏), Patina Lin (沈建宏), Coco Jiang (蒋怡), Christine Ke (柯奂如), Wu Ya Xin (吴亚馨) and others. The investor, GTV Station has received many offers for the broadcasting rights of the show.”

Summer of Bubbles is based on a book by Ming Xiaoxi,  who is apparently characterized by beautiful, fairytale-like prose. Cover art of book, which is being made into a manga as well:

You can read the complete novel here, but in Mandarin only 😦 (at least I think it’s Mandarin)

Ke Huan Ru, who also played a supporting role with Barbie in Meteor Garden, will also be in it.
