Black and White

Vic Zhou finally, finally, finally has a new drama coming out; it’s been on my radius for a while ever since I first heard of it and went into mad ecstasy because a)my favorite Taiwanese actor is making a drama comeback b)he’s finally taking on another serious role after the brilliant and amazing Mars and c)the plot sounds to die for.  It’s finally premiering April 11 so I thought I’d make a post on it.  It’s called Black and White and is about hot cops is about two cops who are forced to team up together to take down the dark forces riddling their city.

  • Title: 痞子英雄 / Pi Zi Ying Xiong
  • English title: Black & White
  • Genre: Police, action
  • Broadcast network: PTS
  • Broadcast period: 2009-Apr-11 to 2009
  • Air time: Saturday 23:00 – 24:00

Synopsis

Pi Zi and Ying Xiong are two cops who are as different as day and night. One does nothing except for drinking coffee and living a luxurious lifestyle while waiting for information from dubious sources to crack his cases. Another believes law and justice are the pillars of society and is constantly on the street catching criminals… a little overzealously for his superior’s liking. When a case brought these two top crime solvers together, sparks fly and a little light peeks into this dark city where the nation’s President is on friendly terms with the local mafia and people are killed while drinking milkshakes.

Cast

Here is what I surmise of the plot so far: Pi Zi(Vic Zhou) is a womanizer who appears to take both life and his job very casually, but in actuality uses women and catching criminals to drown out the torment he’s hiding underneath(we’ve all seen this before). Ying Xiong(Mark Chao) is his opposite: a dedicated cop who takes his life and responsibilities very seriously. Both are, in their different ways, very good at what they do. When they are paired together to fight crime, they initially take a dislike to each other, but gradually begin to work as a team.  Kingone Wang plays uber-bad dude, possibly the mob boss, and is somehow mixed up with making and selling a drug called Dreamer. The mob’s name is San Lian and Ivy Chen plays Chen Ling, the daughter of the mob boss who falls in love with Vic. She and Vic almost certainly form one half of the love quartet dramas are so fond of forming, with Mark Chao(Ying Xiong) and Janine Chang, who plays forensics scientist Xi Ying, making up the other half(Ying Xiong and Xi Ying are the ones in the steamy love scene). The usual drama happens in which they’re all in love with each other but everyone loves the wrong person/is not loved in return etc. etc.  Also, I believe a girl dies at some point: whether one of the main girls or another girl I don’t know.

  1. i totally agree about Zai Zai Zhou and his acting ability. I was mesmerised by Mars. I’ve just reviewed the first four eps of Black & White on my blog neveridol and got a good screen cap of the moment when Chen Zai Tian talks to his fax machine!
Love your media and commentary–must visit this blog more often!!!

  2. i want to ask is there will be B&W season 2 or not?
I think the ending is not clear… the episode only until 24, right?

  3. I don’t think there will be a second season but there will be a movie that will wrap things up. I’m not sure when it’s coming out but it will star all the same people.
